Abstract

PURPOSE

To examine the influence of different types of collateral vessels (CVs) on the recurrence of macular edema (ME) in branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO), and explore other CV characteristics associated with BRVO-ME recurrence.

METHODS

CVs were divided into superficial vascular complex (SVC) type and deep vascular complex (DVC) + SVC type by wide field swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). The proportion of recurrent ME, the number of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) injections, and CV characteristics were compared between the eyes with different types of CVs in BRVO during the 6-month observation period. The influence of CVs related characteristics on ME recurrence in BRVO were analyzed.

RESULTS

Forty-eight BRVO eyes with ME (36 with DVC + SVC type CVs and 12 with SVC type CVs) were retrospectively included. Eyes with DVC + SVC type CVs showed a higher incidence of recurrent ME, more anti-VEGF injections, larger non-perfusion area (NPA), and longer collateral vessel length (CVL) than eyes with SVC type CVs (all P < 0.05). Multiple regression analyses showed that CVs of DVC + SVC type, shorter distance from CVs to the macular fovea (DCMF), and lower curvature of the veins proximal to CVs (CVPC) were significantly associated with the recurrence of ME in BRVO (all P < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONS

Eyes with DVC + SVC type CVs are more likely to develop the recurrence of ME than eyes with SVC type CVs, and shorter DCMF and lower CVPC can also make ME more prone to recurrence in BRVO.

目的

研究不同类型侧支血管(CVs)对视网膜分支静脉阻塞(BRVO)黄斑水肿(ME)复发的影响,并探讨与BRVO-ME复发相关的其他CV特征。

方法

通过广角扫频源光学相干断层扫描血管造影(OCTA)将CVs分为浅表血管复合体(SVC)型和深部血管复合体(DVC)+SVC型。比较BRVO患者不同类型CVs眼在6个月观察期内ME复发比例、抗血管内皮生长因子(VEGF)注射次数及CV特征。分析CV相关特征对BRVO中ME复发的影响。

结果

回顾性纳入48只患有ME的BRVO眼(36只DVC+SVC型CVs眼和12只SVC型CVs眼)。与SVC型CVs眼相比,DVC+SVC型CVs眼的ME复发率更高、抗VEGF注射次数更多、无灌注区(NPA)更大且侧支血管长度(CVL)更长(均P<0.05)。多元回归分析显示,DVC+SVC型CVs、CVs至黄斑中心凹的距离(DCMF)较短以及CVs近端静脉的曲率较低(CVPC)与BRVO中ME的复发显著相关(均P<0.05)。

结论

与SVC型CVs眼相比,DVC+SVC型CVs眼更易发生ME复发,且较短的DCMF和较低的CVPC也会使BRVO中的ME更易复发。
