The article examines the issue of sexual dimorphism in experimental non-traumatic osteoarthritis (OA). The study analyzed the articular structures and internal organs of 8-month-old female Wistar rats after inducing chronic heart failure and obesity, which served as the author's OA model. The results were compared with those from a control group of females and existing literature on OA modeling in males, using histochemical and morphometric techniques, as well as semi-quantitative assessments using the Mankin and OARSI scales and the Krenn synovitis scale. The findings indicate the onset of early OA in the experimental female group, supporting the effectiveness of this modeling approach based on vascular-metabolic factors. Additionally, the comparative analysis showed that joint tissue changes were more significant in males than in females, suggesting that male rats are more suitable for OA modeling.
