By means of migration inhibition tests a new antigenic specificity was demonstrated in rabbit and hamster embryonal fibroblasts cultured in the presence of -fluorophenylalanine; a similar result was obtained in the cultivation of the cells in the presence of another amino acid analogue (S-benzylcysteine). Changes of antigenic properties of the cells induced by a definitive analogue were immunologically specific for the particular analogue. In rabbits immunized with rabbit embryonal fibroblasts cultured in the presence of -fluorophenylalanine only delayed type hypersensitivity against the employed cells was demonstrated; antibody production could not so far be demonstrated. It is probable that the altered antigenic specificity of cellular proteins was induced by analogue incorporation into the newly synthesized protein components, which resulted in an altered conformation of protein molecules.
