Myelomeningocele; an analysis of deaths following early closure of the back lesion.

In three separate series of patients with open myelomeningocele treated in the neonatal period, meningoventriculitits was found to be the commonest cause of post-operative death. Improved neonatal surgical centres and less pressure on the nursing staff have reduced the incidence of this complication.
