Described in this paper is an external tocometer, Type W 401, for complementary use to Type BMT 504 foetal monitor (VEB Messgerätewerk Zwönitz, GDR). Its applications can be expanded by combination with additional measuring and recording instruments of the BMT series. This will widen possibilities for differentiated external tocography and systematic monitoring of foetal movements. Recording examples are given.
