[Lithium treatment in Cluster headache (author's transl)].

the results of a Lithium Carbonate therapy for 14 Cluster headache patients are reported. For all of them a rapid and striking reduction of both the frequency and severity of the attacks was remarked on day doses that varied from patient to patient but never were over 900 mg. Plasmatic as well as RBC lithium levels have been constantly found below the levels generally believed as necessary for the treatment of manic depressive psychosis. The interruption of the treatment after one week without any attacks has never been followed by a new onset of them. Side effects have been checked as rare and scanty, so that all the patients have been allowed to bring the therapy to the conclusion.
