A case of genital herpes associated with aseptic meningitis is presented. The current concepts regarding epidemiology and pathogenesis, with special attention to involvement of the central nervous system, are discussed. The various clinical and laboratory aspects of the disease are briefly discussed. A review of the literature revealed only forty-four cases of proved herpetic infection of the cerebrospinal fluid in patients other than neonates. The concept of genital herpes as a new and serious public health problem is presented. With the present state of our knowledge and technology, genital herpetic infections will be a major problem for some time to come.
本文报告1例伴有无菌性脑膜炎的生殖器疱疹病例。讨论了目前关于流行病学和发病机制的概念，特别关注中枢神经系统的受累情况。简要讨论了该疾病的各种临床和实验室方面。文献回顾显示，除新生儿外，仅有44例经证实的脑脊液疱疹感染病例。提出了生殖器疱疹作为一个新的严重公共卫生问题的概念。就我们目前的知识和技术水平而言，生殖器疱疹感染在未来一段时间内仍将是一个主要问题。
