Prostaglandins E1 and E2 were found to lower the pressor effects of norepinephrine and sympathetic stimulation with respect to the cerebral vessels in cats. This property is more marked in prostaglandin E1. Inhibition of the prostaglandins biosynthesis with indometacin leads to intensification of the described antagonism between the prostaglandins E1 and E2, on the one hand, and pressor effects of norepinephrine and sympathetic stimulation, on the other. It is admitted as possible that prostaglandins E1 and E2 partake in the mechanisms of adrenergic regulation of the cerebral circulation.
