Abstract

The relative reticulocyte content and the average Fe-uptake of peripheral reticulocytes were investigated in rats after a blood loss and whole body irradiation as well after a combined treatment for a time of 15 days. The acute loss of blood caused a rapid increase of cellular uptake within 24 hours, whereas after irradiation a considerable diminution could be observed. In addition to a direct stimulation or inhibition a considerable diminution could be observed. In addition to a direct stimulation or inhibition of bone-marrow activity a direct impact of reticulocytes by blood loss and irradiation is discussed.
