A patient is presented that had instillation of Hyskon at the time of laparoscopy and then had a laparotomy. Fifty milliliters of Hyskon was instilled into the abdomen, and the next day at laparotomy 255 ml of peritoneal fluid was present, demonstrating that Hyskon was able to promote the transfer of a large volume of fluid into the peritoneal cavity. By separating fibrin-covered surfaces, this hydroflotation effect inhibits adhesion formation.
