A wide variety of prosthetic devices and communication aids--including hearing aids, telephone and television amplifying systems, and signal devices to convert audio signals to visual signals--are currently available to help the hearing-impaired elderly. However, successful application of these aids in the elderly depends on motivation, type of hearing loss, and third-party-payer policies.
