Cardiac tissue isolated from the UM- X7 .1 myopathic hamster shows decreasing levels of the calcimedin proteins relative to calmodulin. Liver, an unaffected tissue, does not show this decrease. The ratio of the 67K - calcimedin to calmodulin for several ages of heart tissue clearly indicates a progressive loss of the calcimedins which correlates with the cardiomyopathy progression. The loss of the calcimedins may be related to the development of the muscle myopathy.
