A correlation between the frequency, nature of metastatic spreading and histological pattern of lung cancer was established on the basis of a study of 2,107 cases of morphologically confirmed cancer, 1,251 specimens of resected lung tissue and 145 exploratory thoracotomies. Poorly-differentiated cancer of the lung was found to involve frequent formation of metastases at all stages. Metastases generally occur as multiple lesions of lymph nodes.
