Wistar/Furth rats, implanted intramuscularly with Wilms' tumor, had the tumor removed by amputation 14 days after implantation. Chemotherapy with vincristine, actinomycin D and adriamycin was initiated after amputation as a single treatment and/or in combination. The survival of the chemotherapy-combination-treated animals was significantly increased. Recurrence of the tumor after amputation was also significantly decreased. The rate of metastases was significantly decreased from control groups. The combination therapy was more effective than single drug therapy.
