Esophagogastrectomy for cancer performed at a community hospital by a thoracic surgeon.

The experience of a thoracic surgeon at a community hospital is presented in the treatment of malignant tumors of the esophagus and cardia by one stage esophagogastrectomy and immediate reconstruction. The results with regard to operative mortality, morbidity and survival time are presented. It is believed that the results are acceptable as compared with the results reported from cancer centers, teaching hospitals and other community hospitals.
