Abstract

A sensitive and specific method for the determination of gamma aminobutyric acid in small (30 mg) brain samples is described. It is based on preparation of the dansyl-butyrolactam (DBL), subsequent separation by thin layer chromatography and measurement of fluorescence after elution. Recovery is checked by routinely adding 14C labelled GABA.
