Drug-induced illness is common in any clinical practice. The consequences of failure or delay in diagnosis--persistent or recurring illness, unnecessary diagnostic evaluation, inappropriate treatment, and future jeopardy from the drug--can be avoided by early recognition. Using descriptions of cases from his practice, the author explores the reasons for failure or delay in diagnosis of drug-induced illness and suggests a stretegy for early recognition.
