Atopic diseases are often characterized by high IgE levels and impaired cellular immune function. Defects in regulatory immune mechanisms have been identified in many other immunologic diseases. The authors examined non-specific spontaneous and concanavalin A generated suppressor function in 15 atopic patients using a new, simplified assay for suppressor cell function. Although three patients exhibited high spontaneous but little con A induced suppressor cell activity, there was no over-all difference in suppression between the atopic and normal control groups.
