The effects of progesterone, testosterone and dehidroisoandrosterone on oxygen consumption, aerobic CO2-production and anaerobic glycolysis of human placentas from early pregnancy were studied. Oxygen consumption and anaerobic glycolysis were reduced by progesterone and dehidroisoandrosterone. Testosterone inhibits oxygen consumption first off all, while moderately decreases CO2 production in aerobic environment.
