Patients with Huntington's disease (HD) appear to possess a brain antigen not found in undiseased brain tissue. The tube leucocyte adherence inhibition (LAI) assay detects immunity to this putative antigen in individuals with Huntington's disease (82%), multiple sclerosis (48%), other neurological disease (17%) and no neurological disease (16%). The antigen-like activity can be extracted from HD brain with 3 M KCl and precipitated with 65–80% saturated ammonium sulphate.
