Coccidioidomycosis, while endemic to the American Southwest, may occur in travelers on return to their homes. Usually asymptomatic in human hosts, approximately 40% of infected subjects will have pulmonary signs and symptoms and 2% will have dissemination from the pulmonary foci. The larynx may be secondarily involved or may be the site of sputum inoculation.
