Diabetes mellitus and atherosclerotic involvement of the profunda femoris artery.

Arteriosclerotic involvement of the PFA is correlated with diabetes mellitus. While patients without diabetes have disease limited to the PFA orifice and the circumflex vessels of the PFA, patients with diabetes are prone to extensive PFA involvement. Severity of atherosclerosis involving the CFA and SFA was not found to be specifically related to diabetes.
