Practical experiences with insulin infusion pumps.

The future role of continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion as a routine treatment for insulin-dependent diabetics rests on clinical considerations such as patient reactions to the system, the possibilities and consequences of pump malfuntion and the effect of pump-induced strict metabolic control on diabetic complications. These issues are discussed in the light of recent evidence.
