Microcyclus aquaticus Z-238 which had been isolated as a methanol oxidizing culture was found to be capable of growth in the atmosphere of hydrogen, oxygen and carbon dioxide in the presence of yeast extract. Autotrophic growth of the culture in the atmosphere of hydrogen required biotin or casaminic acids.
