At low concentrations, (+)-catechin leads to an increase and at higher concentrations to an inhibition of protein and basal membrane synthesis in isolated kidney glomeruli of diabetic and non-diabetic rats. The effect shows gradual differences between diabetic and non-diabetic glomeruli. This could be due to the different basal synthetic capacity observed in diabetic and non-diabetic glomeruli.
