A survey of 85 of our patients (170 eyes) wearing relatively steep based curved Hydrocurve thin series hydrophilic lenses, shows that 32 percent of the eyes fit demonstrate a particular type of corneal staining (21 percent light, 6 percent moderate, and 5 percent heavy). We have designated this corneal epithelial staining as Pitting Stain. It occurs as concentrated, superficial, punctate staining that may coalesce and deepen into branching patterns with a whitish pitting appearance.
