Adult ovariectomized ewes, daily injected with testosterone propionate (2 to 22 mg), showed male-like sexual behaviour, never seen in untreated females, but very similar to that in normal rams. After a few days of latency (3 days minimum), this behaviour gradually appeared and increased in frequency until a plateau was reached. The time-course in which the plateau was reached depended on the androgen dose and on previous experience with male sexual behaviour. Some male-like behaviour might have persisted after the end of the treatment. The results have been discussed in terms of possible mechanisms of action on the central nervous system.
