Teaching health care of the elderly in the medical course in Nottingham.

The Department of Health Care of the Elderly in the University of Nottingham consists of psychiatrists and physicians specializing in geriatrics and working side by side, both in practice and in teaching. The purpose of this approach is described as is the way in which it affects undergraduate teaching. Teaching is mainly concentrated within one month full time in the middle clinical year and this combines an apprenticeship with a planned programme of teaching and a supervised project. There is also an 'à la carte' component which allows students to select for themselves topics which have not been covered and approach staff members individually to fill the gaps.
