The effect of vitamin E on the toxicity of cadmium (Cd) in Cd-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus 3719– was studied. The addition of vitamin E into the liquid growth medium resulted in a shortened lag phase of growth in Gd-stressed S. aureus 3719–. It is suggested that the decrease observed in the length of the lag phase is due to the antioxidative effect of vitamin E which indicates that Cd together with hydrogen peroxide produced by the bacterium may induce an oxidative damage in staphylococcal cells.
研究了维生素E对镉敏感型金黄色葡萄球菌3719–中镉(Cd)毒性的影响。在液体生长培养基中添加维生素E导致镉胁迫下的金黄色葡萄球菌3719–的生长延迟期缩短。据推测,观察到的延迟期长度的缩短是由于维生素E的抗氧化作用,这表明镉与细菌产生的过氧化氢可能会诱导葡萄球菌细胞发生氧化损伤。
