Immunologically mediated diseases of the lung and the bronchial system, in specially allergic bronchial asthma have reached increasing clinical significance. The importance of the immediate allergic reaction for pathogeneses, diagnosis and therapy is pointed out and discussed under the aspect of recent findings.
