Scientists' explanations of group differences are based as much on their political values and unconscious needs as on objective data. It is argued that explanations of black-white differences on intelligence tests, deviant patterns of emotional and social behavior, sex differences, and attitudes toward social change and political action as primary prevention, all are influenced by underlying ideologies.
