In the rat, carrageenan injected intravenously lowers the systemic blood pressure. This activity depends on kininogen-kinin system activation, on prostaglandin release by these kinins and on mechanic pulmonary vascular blockade. Neither histamine nor 5-hydroxytryptamine releases are observed.
