Intraperitoneal administration of calcium causes a significant drop in the body temperature (p less than 0.01). The animals in which a temperature drop was obtained in this way were subjected to an intense exercise on a running track. No significant differences were observed in the exercise-induced body temperature rise in the group of experimental and control rats. The possible effect of a peripheral mechanism of calcium action on thermoregulation during exercise is discussed.
