Abstract
The intrauterine device (IUD) differs from other methods of contraception: while the complication rate of other methods rises sharply with advancing age, that of the IUD does not. The IUD is relatively inexpensive, it eliminates error and it need not have any deleterious systemic effect. The incidence of complications can be minimized through improved family planning advice, as well as careful patient and IUD selection
