The article describes the latent ischaemic phase during proximal femoral epiphysis, basing on the variable development of the vessels with reduced number of afferent arterial vessels. The importance of this phenomenon for the development of the typical pattern of Perthes' disease (Legg-Calvé-Perthes' disease) is demonstrated.
