The end or the central part of the pancreas was resected or pancreatomy was performed in dogs. The morphological and functional state of the thyroid gland was investigated by the histological, histochemical, and morphometrical methods at different postoperative periods. The changes revealed showed structural and functional alterations of the thyroid gland to be dependent primarily on the type of surgical interventions on the pancreas. Resection of the terminal sections caused temporary and insignificant changes in the thyroid gland, but complete removal of the pancreas was followed by acute dystrophy and atrophic changes in the thyroid gland, this leading to the functional exhaustion.
