Chronic pain may be considered a disease and its treatment a necessity. Neurosurgical treatment of chronic pain is justified in cases where conservative treatment is no longer effective or causes excessive side effects. The new percutaneous methods involve no stress, minimal risk and short hospitalization. Destructive neurosurgical procedures are mainly used for cancer pain, with the exception of trigeminal neuralgia. Non-destructive neurostimulating methods to control pain are well on the way to achieving their optimum clinical potential and preserve the integrity of the nervous system.
慢性疼痛可被视为一种疾病，其治疗是必要的。在保守治疗不再有效或产生过多副作用的情况下，慢性疼痛的神经外科治疗是合理的。新的经皮方法无压力、风险极小且住院时间短。除三叉神经痛外，破坏性神经外科手术主要用于癌症疼痛。控制疼痛的非破坏性神经刺激方法正朝着发挥其最佳临床潜力的方向发展，并能保持神经系统的完整性。
