The ATP-citrate-lyase activity (EC 4.1.3.8) is established to increase by the age of three months and then to lower gradually with age. An increase in the NAD-dependent malate dehydrogenase (EC 1.1.1.37) activity by the period of the puberty is followed by its decrease in the period of ageing. The activity of decarboxylating NADP-malate dehydrogenase (EC 1.1.1.40) is sharply decreased already by the age of three months and lowers still more with ageing. A conclusion is drawn that with the organism ageing the supply of lipogenesis with reduced NADP and acetyl-CoA in the rat liver tissue is weakened.
