A case study is presented in which a broadly eclectic or patient-focused approach was used, which allowed the treatment to be determined by the ability of the patient to handle different levels of material at different times. It is argued that such an eclectic approach can only develop from an awareness of the value of both psychotherapeutic and behavioural theories, and represents the increasing rapprochement between them.
