The rise in the level of environmental radiation resulting from man's activities has been relatively small in relation to naturally occurring background [corrected] radiation. (One exception to this is microwave radiations.) There are no quantitative data on the effects of low levels of radiation on man, and the possible health consequences remain unclear. The risks of hazardous amounts from x-rays can be minimized by careful use.
