Late cystoid macular edema in pseudophakia.

Late-onset cystoid macular edema appears one yeasr or more after cataract extraction. Three patients developed this problem after intracapsular cataract extractions and implantation of intraocular lenses. In two cases the edema did not resolve despite drug therapy. In the third, the edema resolved completely, possibly because of spontaneous improvement rather than treatment. It is not yet possible to determine whether the incidence of cystoid macular edema is greater in eyes that have been implanted with intraocular rather than conventional lenses.
