Psychology of mastectomized patients.

Reach to Recovery was created to help the woman who has just had a mastectomy, because she will be faced with problems unlike any she has had to cope with before. The patient can identify with a healthy well adjusted woman, who has been mastectomized herself, and ask her non-medical questions. The experience of the author, who visited many mastectomized patients, shows that they are often misunderstood. Reconstruction, if medically acceptable, should be allowed without judgement to all women asking for it, and not only to young and slim patients.
