Both animal (rats) experiments and examinations of dyestuff industry workers exposed to chlorobenzene allowed to identify 4-chlorocatechol as one of the major chlorobenzene metabolites. 4-chlorocatecholuria was found to be monophasic with 24 h half-time, which indicates that concentrations are likely to increase in the body with everyday exposure. The 4-chlorocatechol test based on thin-layer chromatography and absorptiometry appeared to be fully useful for exposure evaluation and chlorobenzene poisonings diagnostics.
