Hyaluronic acid was detected in 193 of 5 359 pleural effusions. The chromatographic determination of H.A distinguished different rage levels: in the 5-50 mg/l range 61% of the cases had mesothelioma, whilst levels over 50 mg/l. 82 per cent had mesothelioma.
