A patient classification system is essential for hospice programs to stay competitive within a changing health care system. The development and implementation of an appropriate system that objectively evaluates cost, quality, and effectiveness of services is one mechanism to support the need for home-based hospice programs. The OCS provides a management system that hospices can use to measure cost and efficiency while documenting quality services.
