[Endoscopic ligation of esophageal varices].

The present report shows the experience of the authors in the treatment of esophageal variceal veins with a new technique: Endoscopic band ligation of esophageal varices. This new procedure developed recently in the western world has been introduced in Perú, thanks to one of the authors who brought the Stiegmann Goff elastic band ligation device. The results of its use in cirrhotic patients with acute variceal hemorrhage and with large esophageal varices has been very effective, getting hemostasis and obliteration of esophageal varices. Very few complications were observed.
