More active education activity in a rural Azerbaidjan region on detection and prevention of tuberculosis led to a 2-3-fold increase in fluorographic examinations (3.7-fold for women). The examinations, in their turn, provided information on a 1-5-fold increase in tuberculosis incidence rate in the region under study. The number of cases identified at fluorography rose 3-fold, the percentage of women among new onsets made up 53.9%. The antituberculous hospital improved education activities among "contact" population which promoted much more active chemoprophylaxis and an 8-fold decrease in "contracts" among new-onset cases.
