Pediatric anesthesia differs from that of adults in many critical ways. Patients in the pediatric group are not required to fast for long periods before surgery. Induction of anesthesia is usually accomplished via inhalation agents. The pediatric airway and its anatomical differences are of special concern to the anesthesia provider and the postanesthesia nursing staff.
