The sick-building syndrome is a poorly defined term whose use should be discontinued. In the majority of cases, engineering problems and pollutant sources can be identified that contribute to the generation of complaints. Although psychosocial factors are likely to exacerbate underlying complaints, they should not distract from identifying solutions.
