The primary structure of the acidic capsular antigen of Escherichia coli O8:K25:H9 was shown by monosaccharide analysis, methylation analysis, and by 1D and 2D 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy to be composed of linear tetrasaccharide repeating units having the structure:
